The Lariat Features Exciting January Entertainment to Start the New Year – by Carly Winchell

The Lariat is starting off 2024 with a blast with their New Year’s Eve show featuring ATOMGA at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 31.

The fun won’t stop on January 1. The Lariat features a full lineup to keep locals entertained throughout the first month of 2024.

ATOMGA

ATOMGA has been a staple in Colorado music since their start in 2011. They feature afrobeat music infused with elements of jazz, rock, hip-hop, and funk. ATOMGA has had remixes by artists such as Grant Phabao at Paris DJ’s in Paris and France and Craig Welsch at Rear Window Studio in Boston. There is a gold medal-winning beer named after them in Curitiba, Brazil from Bodebrown. This brew is periodically served at Banded Oak Brewing Company in Denver.

“ATOMGA specializes in positive vibes, authentic Nigerian Afrobeat and funk/soul sounds ideal for dancing your ass off,” said Westword’s Ru Johnson.

ATOMGA features LaSha “Calysol” Afarko (vocals), Joshua Merbitz (trumpet), Frank Roddy (tenor saxophone), Andrew Tobin (baritone saxophone), Casey Hrdlicka (guitar), Peter Mouser (keyboards, fender rhodes), Otis Lande (Bass Guitar), Jared “Jball” Fischer (congas, djembe, percussion), Matt Grundstad (timbales, percussion), and Matt Schooley (drums).

Midnight River Choir is known for their high-energy shows.

According to their website, “They believe that what you get is what you give, and they give everything they have to their crowds.”

Midnight River Choir features Eric Middleton (lead singer and guitarist), Justin Nelson (lead guitarist), and Mitchell Pyeatt (drummer).

Pixie and the Partygrass Boys

This is an all age event. The bar will be available. Admission tickets cost $12 and are available for purchase here.

Pixie and the Partygrass Boys started as a group of skiers playing house parties in the Cottonwood Canyons of Salt Lake City and have evolved into a nationally touring band.

They are known for their “unique blend of heartfelt songwriting, high-velocity instrumental excellence, silly outfits, and sing-along anthems.”

The group is a five-year fixture of WinterWonderGrass and has played High Sierra Music Festival, Gem and Jam, Delfest, Jam Cruise, Hangtown, Sawtooth Valley Gathering, Bourbon and Beyond, and other venues across the United States.

The band features Katia “Pixie “Racine (vocals, ukulele), Amanda B. Grapes (fiddle, vocals), Zach Downes (upright bass), Ben Weiss (mandolin, vocals), and Andrew Nelson (guitar, vocals).

Evanoff

Evanoff is well known throughout the Colorado music scene. It is a guitar-driven, live-electronic trio. Evanoff has played Electric Forest, Camp Bisco, Hulaween, Resonance, Peach, Joshua Tree, Sonic Bloom, and other venues throughout the United States.

Evanoff features Jordan “JJ” Evanoff, Daniel Brennan Forrester, and Jake Dorval-Hall.

Sqwerv

Sqwerv is a four-piece band that fuses classic rock and psychedelic music with funk for an original sound.

According to their website, “The band spends a great deal of time writing lyrics, composing, and developing song structure that has grown into a catalogue that ranges from twelve minute prog songs inspired by Homer’s Odyssey to two minute psych songs about love. They are fiercely driven to get to those transcendent, improvised spaces that all jam-music lovers crave. Sqwerv continues to deliver to their audiences through groove, counterpoint, polyrhythms and risk taking.”

Sqwerv features Guy Frydenlund, Caden Kramer, Zach Bulgarelli, and Jack “The Janitor” Marty.

Kenny Feidler & the Cowboy Killers

Kenny Feidler & The Cowboy Killers is a South Dakota band that blends Feidler’s dark country songs and stories of the West with The Cowboy Killers’ gritty rock n roll sound.

Feidler began writing and playing songs as a rodeo cowboy, selling home recorded CDs. Since forming the band, their music has received over 120 million streams worldwide.

Arkansauce

8:30 p.m. Friday, January 26

Arkansauce is a four-piece string band from Northern Arkansas. They are known for blurring the lines between bluegrass, newgrass, folk, and americana with elements of country, blues, and funk.

They have performed throughout the United States and have had two European tours. Arkansauce have played events with played mainstage spots on festivals with groups, such as Greensky Bluegrass, Railroad Earth, The Del McCoury Band, Billy Strings, Leftover Salmon, Tauk, The Wood Brothers, and others. They have also shared the stage with Sam Bush as a guest.

The group features Ethan Bush (mandolin), Zac Archuleta (guitar), Tom Andersen (upright bass), and Adams Collins (five-string banjo). Each member sings lead and harmony and contributes to lyrics.

Albert Castiglia was raised in Miami and apprenticed to blues musician Junior Wells. He later worked with singer Sandra Hall.
