SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Saturday was the final day of Small Business Week and City Market wrapped up their very first Art and Soul Music Festival.

It was a way to shine a light on the many small businesses in the area.

Music… soul… and..

“Really celebrating the small businesses and the artists in the area,” said Kimberly Phillips, managing director of City Market.

All here at the corner of St. Julian and Jefferson on the final day of Small Business Week.

It’s City Market’s first year hosting the Art and Soul Music Festival. Kimberly Phillips with City Market says, it’s been a success.

“They have had great traffic in the businesses, their cash registers are ringing so that’s always great,” said Phillips.

She says one thing that sets City Market apart is the number of small businesses they have in the area. One local artist at the festival agrees it was a successful week.

“It just brings extra attention to the people who are working day in, day out, so many long nights just to get their product out there,” said Laura Barton, an artist and gallery owner.

Barton is the owner of Laura Till Barton Fine Arts, where she creates custom pieces like these. And this week, she’s happy she could share her work with the Savannah community.

“Shopping small and really taking something that is one of a kind, handmade. And taking it home with them and enriching their lives,” said Barton.

There was live music, hundreds of people and lots more of those handmade and hand-crafted pieces.

City market says although this was their inaugural year, they’re hoping to continue the festival for years to come.
