WEEKEND PLANS – There’s no shortage of things to do in the Capital Region, whether you’re looking for live music, films, theater, games or festivals.

If you’re in need of a few ideas for your weekend plans, we’ve rounded up a few of the best bets from around the area.

Here’s a look at what’s going on:

Outlaw Music Festival at SPAC

Willie Nelson and others will be heading to SPAC Friday for the Outlaw Music Festival, a national tour that celebrates the singer and guitarist’s life and legacy for his 90th birthday year. The festival will include performances by Willie Nelson & Family, Los Lobos, Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros featuring the Wolf Pack and Particle Kid.

The concert will kick off at 5 p.m. on Friday at SPAC in Saratoga Springs. Tickets start at $48.65 and can be purchased online at spac.org.

PearlPalooza 2023

North Pearl Street in Albany will be filled with crowds this Saturday as PearlPalooza, a free music festival, returns for its 14th year. The day will kick off at 11 a.m. with YogaPalooza, a mass yoga gathering presented by MVP Health Care, before jumping into the main event: a long lineup of live performances from bands like Sly Fox & The Hustlers, B Chaps and Fishbone. A number of local vendors will also set up shop throughout the area.

PearlPalooza will take this place this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on N Pearl Street in Albany. It will be free and open to the public. 

FILE – Sherman’s Amusement Park Caroga Lake

Alex Torres & His Latin Orchestra at Caroga Lake

After a summer filled musical performances at Sherman’s Park and beyond, Caroga Lake will be closing out the season Friday with a performance by Alex Torres & His Latin Orchestra. The concert, coined “Fiesta Caroga,” will also celebrate the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month and a salsa dance lesson will be held before the show.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the Sherman’s Park pavilion in Caroga Lake. Tickets start at $17.85 and can be purchased online at carogaarts.org. Admission is free for students and those under 17 years of age.

“Matilda the Musical” at SLOC Musical Theater

The Schenectady Light Opera Company will be kicking off its production of “Matilda the Musical” Friday. The show, with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, follows Roald Dahl’s classic story about a precocious bookworm named Matilda Wormwood.

Showings will take place at the SLOC Musical Theater in Schenectady on Friday at 8 p.m., on Saturday at 8 p.m. and on Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets start at $25 and can be purchased online at sloctheater.org.

Drag Queen Game Night

Enjoy a night of games, laughs and fun at Putnam Place on Saturday with Drag Queen Game Night. Hosted by Zarria Davenport and special guest Starling Silver, the evening will feature trivia challenges and interactive competitions.

Drag Queen Game Night will start at 8 p.m. on Saturday at Putnam Place in Saratoga Springs. Tickets can be purchased online at putnamplace.com for $15 in advance and for $20 the week of the show. This is a 21+ event.
