A BROMSGROVE music festival has been ranked the best grassroots event in the country at a recent awards ceremony.

The Breaking Bands Festival was nominated for three accolades at the UK Festival Awards and was crowned the ‘Best Grassroots Festival’.

Jay McGuire and Stacey Roberts, festival directors, were overjoyed to win The Grassroots category because it reflects the ethos of the Breaking Bands event.

Jay said: “The award is not just a note of recognition, it pays tribute to the local community which so strongly supports this annual event.

“The festival has sold out every single year since 2015 and has hosted over 300 artists.”

Held at Stoke Prior Sports & Country Club, the festival takes place from Thursday to Monday over the Whitsun Spring Bank Holiday in May.

Mark Goddard, manager at Stoke Prior Sports & Country Club added: “Small festivals are vital for supporting the grassroots music scene.

“On behalf of the entire Breaking Bands team, I would like to thank the members of the public who nominated us for the award.”

Alongside its award win, the Breaking Bands Festival was also shortlisted for Best Festival for Emerging Talent, and Best Micro Festival.

A representative for the awards said: “This award acknowledges the independent festivals whose organisers sacrifice their time, energy and finances in order to host an event that’s true to their ideals and free from commercial interests.”

Now in its 18th year, the UK Festival Awards is the UK’s only fully festival focused awards.

Over 500 people attended the awards ceremony in December, representing festivals both large and small

The 2024 Breaking Bands Festival takes place between May 24 and 27.
