The Méra World Music Festival is an annual event held in the village of Méra, Transylvania, Romania. It celebrates the richness of world music and culture, offering attendees an enchanting journey of musical discovery. The festival features an exceptional lineup of diverse musical traditions from around the world, including bands from Mexico, Venezuela, Chile, Ukraine, Belgium, and more.

What makes this festival unique is its combination of local and global elements, referred to as “glocal” dynamics. The intimate setting of a rustic barn adds a magical touch to the experience, fostering a strong sense of community among the maximum capacity of 1000 attendees.

Mexico, Venezuela, and Chile meet the traditional cumbia music and drive the energy of the Unicumbia band. The Ukrainian Hudai Village Band creates a mixture of Roma sounds, Jewish nostalgia and humor, and Ukrainian-Carpathian soulfulness. American klezmer and Transylvanian folk music are combined in the American violinist, Zoë Aqua’s music.

The Belgian musician Tcha Limberger will also attend Méra with the Kalotaszeg Trió.

Kommuna Lux, the Odessa-based band, brings the vibrant spirit of their hometown to life through their unique style of “Odessa Gangsta Folk”, while Arundo interprets lesser-known Hungarian folk songs with Spanish guitar accompaniment. Meanwhile, with their innovative style and deep roots in South Slavic folk music, Söndörgő promises a captivating and unforgettable musical experience as well!

Traditional melodies are also going to be represented by the Hungarian gypsy band Parno Graszt, the Romanian Balkan brass band Fanfara Transilvania, the Slovakian Nogaband, the Irish trio Houlihan, the Hungarian – Romanian cooperation Antonio Projekt, the ethno a cappella trio Dalinda, and the folk dance show by one of the best-known ensembles in the Carpathian Basin: The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble

After the concerts, there are multiple options for after-parties: Dance house with authentic folk music in the company of traditional musicians from the musician dynasties of Méra and the surrounding area and world music DJ set by Cyborg Templar and BéTé.

Apart from mesmerizing performances, the festival also offers workshops, activities, and opportunities to interact with the artists, promoting cultural exchange and understanding. Attendees can enjoy various cuisines, art exhibitions, documentaries, and the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the Transylvanian countryside.

Tickets for the Méra World Music Festival 2023 are available for purchase, and early booking is recommended due to limited capacity and high demand. The festival takes place from the 3rd to the 6th of August in Méra, inviting music enthusiasts and cultural connoisseurs to celebrate the universal language of music and the beauty of diverse cultures.
