Mangaluru: Expert PU College organises music fest ‘Laya Lavanya’ at Time Square

Mangaluru, Jan 1: ‘Laya Lavanya’ a music festival was held at Time Square of Expert PU College, Valachil on December 30.

Manikanth Kadri, the noted film music composer and singer inaugurated the programme by singing a melodious song.

A mind-blowing mix of Southern and Northern-Folklore-Western-Latin percussions were performed by ‘Karnataka Kalashree’ ‘Gana Kalashree’ ‘Layakala Prathibhamani’ ‘Naada Laya Guru Shreshtha’ Vidwan Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma, who is affectionately known as ‘Shivu Sir.’

The artists who accompanied him are Vidwan Amith Nadig on the flute, Vidwan K J Dilip on the violin, Vidwan B R Somashekar Jois on the Kannakkol, Vidwan Prajwal Bharadwaj on the khanjari, Vidwan S P Nagendra Prasad on the mridangam and khol, Vidwan Chidananda on morching, Vidwan Sunaad Anoor on percussions, Vidwan Akshara Raghu on drums, Vidwan Madhu Sohan on Dholak and tamate, Vidwan Pramod Shyam Anoor on pakhawaz and Dholak and Vidwan Jagadeesh Kurthakoti on tabla.

Ankush N Nayak, director, information technology, Expert PU College, welcomed the musicians.

Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice-chairperson of Expert Group of Institutions, Mangaluru said in her concluding remarks, “Music means rhythm which acknowledges happiness, unites everyone and enhances aesthetic beauty at heart”. She also enigmatically said that if Laya is lost, everything is lost. So, all should be always with proper Laya in life.

Prof Narendra L Nayak, chairman and Dr Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice- chairperson felicitated music laureate Vidwan Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma with a memento and a citation on the occasion.

Deepika A Nayak, architect, Dr N K Vijayan Karippal principal, Expert PU College, Valachil, Raghavendra Shenoy vice-principal (admin), Subramanya Udupa vice-principal (academics), Druthi V Hegde, programme director and other faculty members were present.

Prof Hariprasad B, department of Mathematics, read the citation of Vidwan Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma. Prof Rakshith M R, HOD, department of Physics, proposed the vote of thanks.

Students Kavya C L and Mrunaalini M of A1 batch introduced the artistes and compered the programme.
