Fat Joe has said he is the reason that Ashanti and Nelly got back together.
Speaking on Instagram Live, the Bronx rap veteran claimed that his Verzuz battle in 2021 against Ja Rule led to the couple rekindling their romance.
Joe, who brought Nelly out as a special guest at the event, said of the moment: “I immediately tell them I need 10 percent of this kid because if it wasn’t for Verzuz, that I brought Nelly out [during] me against Ja Rule, that’s when they saw each other and energy connected again.”
He added: “That’s when he said, ‘I gotta have her.’ He was over there contemplating; he really wanted to go over there.”

The “Make It Rain” rapper then recalled Nelly going over to Ashanti at the event: “He goes over there, and that starts the conversation. You know somebody gotta crack the ice — I don’t know why they fell out.”
Fat Joe also denied that Ashanti was pregnant despite rumors circulating that she was. But he did say the couple are living “happy ever after.”
Nelly and Ashanti confirmed their relationship in September, with the St. Louis rapper saying: “Yeah, we cool again. I think it surprised both of us. It wasn’t anything that I don’t think planned. I think we were both doing pretty much what we do. Sometimes being separate you understand one another more.
“You could be like maybe let me see exactly what they say. You know we could all be defensive in our relationships. We know we wrong but we gonna stand on it. We all a victim to that.”
Ja Rule also recently commented on the two getting back together after previously dating from 2003 to 2013.
“Not really,” Ja said when asked by Tamron Hall if he was caught off guard by the couple reuniting. “So her and my wife, they do their ha-ha ki-ki-ing, right? And so, you can tell sometimes when women want that old thing back.”
“I don’t wanna blow sis up!” he added. “But the chemistry was there. And I think for both of them, it came back quick. I think they missed each other. The way they clicked just came back so fast.”
