Wale has reportedly inked a new deal under Def Jam, ahead of his return to music.

TMZ was the first to report the news about the rapper on Thursday (Oct. 19). Neither Wale nor Def Jam have issued a formal statement on their alleged new partnership.

However, the outlet noted that sources close to the Washington D.C. native told them that he signed the deal months ago and “it will be instrumental in navigating the next facet of his career.” This includes the new single he’s releasing on Friday, Oct. 20.

Wale teased his return to music just one day prior with a post of himself on social media captioned, “My silence has been golden… see you on Friday. Folarin back.”

His entire Instagram feed was wiped prior to the announcement, which typically indicates a new chapter in an artist’s career. TMZ also added that Wale has plans to “take his [hometown] by storm,” but didn’t specify what that means exactly.

Wale’s last release was 2021’s Folarin II, which boasted features from Rick Ross, Jamie Foxx, Shawn Stockman, Lil Chris, and others. The LP was lead by hit singles, “Angles” featuring Chris Brown and “Poke It Out” featuring J. Cole. The following year, the 39-year-old released his 2010 acclaimed, Seinfeld referenced mixtape, More About Nothing, across digital streaming platforms.

Despite the lack of a proper, solo release, Wale hasn’t fully disappeared from the music scene. Earlier this month, he appeared on ODUMODUBLVCK and Bloody Civilian’s “BLOOD ON THE DANCE FLOOR” while in 2022, he collaborated with several artists and made guest appearances on Damon Albarn’s “Bird Calling,” Nelccia’s “Smoke, Drink, Break Up,” and Hylan Starr’s “If Pretty Was A Person.”
