John Butler and Phil Walleystack will headline a “Yes” vote music festival in Perth on Sunday in a bid to bolster support for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

The music stars will play in Victoria Gardens as part of nationwide music events taking part around the country on the same weekend.

Other music stars taking part include Dan Sultan, Paul Kelly, Peter Garrett, Missy Higgins, Bernard Fanning with Busby Marou, Emma Donovan and MARLON.

They will perform across other cities including Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, Darwin, Alice Springs, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart and Launceston as part of the Walk For Yes event.

Dan Sultan placed his support behind the referendum ahead of his performance at Sydney’s Redfern Park.

“I’m really looking forward to being a part of such a beautiful event. An event that is about optimism and empowerment,” Sultan said.

“A lot of important work has gone into this and I’m proud to make a contribution.”

Marlon will play in Adelaide’s Victoria Square and said music is the way to win over opinion when it comes to the crunch vote on October 14.

The gigs are being supported by Australia’s leading music organisations including ARIA, Frontier Touring, Live Nation, Universal Music Australia and Warner Music Australia.

Ahead of the shows they all signed a group statement that said: “We are a united group of music and entertainment industry individuals, organisations, and businesses. The music we all create, perform, and share on this country, is inextricably connected to the oldest continuing culture on earth.”

It continued: “We all continue to benefit from First Nations people, their cultural knowledge, their connection to the lands, and their storytelling. We value that culture and we value the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

“United in this belief, together we accept the gracious invitation to all Australians in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. Today we say YES with open hearts and open minds for an Indigenous Voice enshrined in the Constitution. We walk together towards a better future.”
