EVANSVILLE – A nationally renowned indie rock duo with deep ties to Evansville will headline a new, free music festival this fall at Wesselman Woods.

The Watson Twins and at least 12 other acts will perform at For the Sake of the Song, a songwriter-focused festival scheduled for Sept. 30. It’s being put on by local musician Zach Evans, who previously co-organized the long-running ParksFest.

Chandra and Leigh Watson are the identical twin daughters of the late University of Evansville men’s basketball coach Bobby Watson, who died alongside his team in a tragic 1977 plane crash.

The daughters went on to attend UE before finding success in music, cutting an album with singer-songwriter Jenny Lewis and appearing on “The Late Show with David Letterman” and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” among several other accolades.

At For the Sake of the Song, they’ll play alongside four other acts on the Odonata Pond amphitheater. There will also be eight singer-songwriters taking part in “roundtable performances,” Evans said.

Performing will be Cynthia Murray & The End Times, Gibson & Pirro, D.R. Bridges and TwoPine. The roundtable musicians include Brick Briscoe, Cas One, Hannah Evelyn, and Zion, among others.
