The UK is full of beautiful towns and villages, each with its own unique features and aesthetic.

Although every location is worthy of note, in some cases, otherwise popular villages would get overlooked by more famous neighbours.

One example of this is Paxford. Located in the heart of the Cotswolds the beautiful village is just two miles east of Chipping Campden in Gloucestershire.

The village has a small population of just 300 people but features a vibrant culture and rich history.

Express.co.uk spoke to the Chair of the Paxford Village Hall Committee about what makes the town so special.

Mr Goodfellow said: [There’s] an amusing article from the early 1970s describing Paxford as ‘Off the Beaten Track’ – we’re near to better-known places such as Chipping Campden, Moreton-in-the-Marsh and Blockley.

“We have our own village identity that is warm, welcoming and inclusive. We’re a closely knit community of people, many of whom have moved here from London and its suburbs (myself included).

“But there are also residents whose families have lived in the village for generations. It’s a quiet, beautiful hamlet of about 300 people, but our numbers are greater in the summer when the holiday rentals are all full.

Mr Goodfellow said the aim of the village hall committee was to “maintain the village hall and provide social events for villagers”.

Mr Goodfellow added: “We do regular quizzes, film nights, the occasional walk, and weekly coffee mornings on a Wednesday which are always well attended.

“In the summer we organised a small music festival ‘Paxfest’ on Saturday, July 29 which was attended by almost 500 people and raised £8,000 for local charities.”

According to the Paxford village website, nearly 500 people attended the most recent event in July earlier this year, enjoying performances from bands such as Tunehead, The Publicans, and Alex and the Wonderland.

They said: “PaxFest was enjoyed by people of all ages and brought the 300-strong community of Paxford together along with visitors from nearby Chipping Campden, Blockley, Moreton-in-Marsh and Shipston.”

Geoff Bolam, organiser of the event, said: “We set out to create a proper music festival covering a range of musical genres, with talented artists playing some of their own material along with more familiar songs.

“I’m delighted by the success of PaxFest – it’s great to be able to support local charities, promote talented musicians and have a lot of fun at the same time!”

As well as Paxfest, the town also hosts a series of coffee mornings every week to encourage people to talk within the community and regular village drinks.

The village hall can also be hired out for special events. According to those behind the service the building was “built as a meeting room for the Paxford Working Men’s Club more than 100 years ago”.
