MEQUON — Entering its 29th year, Gathering on the Green has revealed the performers who will headline its much-anticipated 2024 show.

The Fabulous Thunderbirds will kick things off by bringing its legendary blend of rock and roll and blues to the stage at 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 12. The Texas-based band, which was formed in 1974 and is led by cofounder Kim Wilson, has provided hits such as “Scratch My Back,” and “Tuff Enuff.”

On Saturday, July 13, the Beatles vs. Stones — A Musical Showdown will take the stage at 8 p.m. for a musical “shootout of the hits.” Abbey Road, one of the country’s top Beatles tribute bands, plays beloved songs spanning the Beatles’ career, while Satisfaction — The International Rolling Stones Show offers a faithful rendition of the music and style of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and the members of the British Invasion era.

Tickets for both concerts will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. General admission is $30 for each, but reserved seating begins at $50 for Friday’s performance and $40 for Saturday’s. Early bird general admissions are $20 through Jan. 8.

“We are very excited as both nights are going to be very entertaining,” GOG Board President Greg Heitz said. “This year, our classic rock night moved to Friday and will feature The Fabulous Thunderbirds. They will be playing all of their hits from the past decades and it will be a rocking good time for all to enjoy … Saturday night is going to be one heck of a show we’ll be talking about for years. Our audience will see a touring concert/production show that will help make up their minds of who is the greatest, The Beatles or The Rolling Stones.”

The two-day music festival is one of southeastern Wisconsin’s premier summer events that features world-class, nationally touring bands, according to GOG. Past performers have included Ann Wilson, Huey Lewis, Mickey Thomas of Starship, Pat Benatar, Cheap Trick, Trace Adkins, Dionne Warwick, Al Jarreau and many more. It is held at Rotary Park at 4100 Highland Road, and also offers beverages and a wide selection of local food vendors.

In addition to Gathering on the Green’s signature July concerts, the nonprofit organization has expanded its presence in the community, offering music education programs as well as benefitting several organizations including Guitars for Vets, which provides relief to struggling veterans through the healing power of music.
