SZA is grateful that her fans made her see just how great of a song “Snooze” is, as she didn’t see it for her mega hit at first.

Taking to Twitter/X on Wednesday (April 24), the New Jersey-bred singer admitted that she was not initially a fan of the record-breaking song – but she has since greatly changed her mind.

“I’m not gon lie snooze wasn’t my favorite when I made the album but now it’s my favorite hands down,” she wrote. “played it at the beach and it was noiiiiiiceeeee [teary eyed emoji]. I’m late but thank y’all for riding til I got some sense [laughing, heart hands and heart emoji]”

Peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, “Snooze” was the only song to chart in the U.S. for every single week of 2023. It also broke the record for the most weeks atop the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart with 30 weeks, won for Best R&B Song at the 2024 Grammy Awards and earlier this month, was crowned by Spotify as the greatest R&B song of the streaming era.

Released on her SOS album in December 2022, it still remains on the Hot 100 now 72 weeks later.

It currently sits at No. 19 on the chart as of this writing.

Later this year, SZA is set to be honored with the Hal David Starlight Award at the 2024 Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards dinner.

At the event, which is going down on June 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City, the SOS singer will become the second Black woman to receive the honor, following Alicia Keys in 2005.

The award is presented to “gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry with their original songs,” according to a press release.

In a statement, SHOF chairman Nile Rodgers said: “This is such an exciting time for songwriters and music. Phenomenal artists like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift are pushing the envelope of what success looks like, but who could argue that the last two years belong to SZA.”

He added: “Incredible songwriting, incredible performances, incredible artistry. She so deserves to be the 2024 recipient of the Hal David Starlight Award!”

Reacting to the news on her Instagram Story, SZA said, “This is THE most meaningful thing to me you have NO idea. THANK YOU beyond words for seeing me at all.”
