KINGSTON, N.Y. — The Senate Garage at 4 N. Front St. will host a classical music concert “Joyous Spirit: Music for Voice, Strings & Piano,” on Friday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m.
The concert will feature the work of Johan Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Mozart, George Gershwin and others. The event will be the first performance of Chamber Music on the Hudson’s 2023-24 concert season.
Performers at the concert will include vocalist Courtney Johnson, pianist Inessa Zaretsky and two members of the Tesla Quartet, violinist Ross Snyder and cellist Austin Fisher.
“We’re showcasing a vibrant palette of musical pieces,” Inessa Zaretsky, artistic director of Chamber Music on the Hudson, said in a press release. “This isn’t your conventional classical music concert. Our lineup features a range of exceptional short pieces, spotlighting renowned musicians in a beautiful, not-traditional venue. The journey spans from 17th Century Europe to 21st Century America within an hour.”
The program will feature Bach’s ‘Prelude for Piano Solo,” Mozart’s “Come Scoglio” from “Cosi Fan Tutte,” and Gershwin’s preludes for cello and piano as well as “Summertime from “Porgy and Bess.” Other pieces on the program include Giuseppe Verdi’s “Tacea la notte placida” from “Il Trovatore” and William Grant Still’s “Mother and Child” as well as the spirituals “His Name So Sweet”, ‘He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands” and “Ride On, King Jesus.”
