Today was the day the music died in Sacramento, at least for this year. The GoldenSky Country Music Festival, Sacramento’s largest country music event, will not return in 2025. Organizers announced Thursday that the festival is taking a one-year hiatus, with plans to return in 2026.
“After three incredible years of country music under the Sacramento sky, we’ve made the decision to press pause on GoldenSky in 2025 as we set our sights on an even bigger and better return in 2026,” festival organizers said in a statement. “This wasn’t an easy decision, but we’re committed to delivering the best possible festival experience for our GoldenSky community.”
The decision is a disappointment for local country music fans and a financial setback for the region. Visit Sacramento CEO Mike Testa said the festival generates nearly $10 million in tourism revenue annually.
GoldenSky is produced by Danny Wimmer Presents, one of the nation’s largest independent festival promoters, in partnership with Visit Sacramento. Danny Wimmer Presents also produces the Aftershock Festival, a rock and metal event that takes place in the weeks leading up to GoldenSky.
Aftershock will proceed as planned Oct. 2-5, but organizers say GoldenSky’s hiatus is due to an oversaturation of country music festivals in 2025, which has made securing top-tier talent more challenging.
Last year, GoldenSky drew more than 60,000 attendees, many of whom boosted local businesses and hotels.
“While we’ll miss gathering with you this year, this isn’t goodbye—it’s just a short break before we come back in 2026 with a festival two years in the making,” the statement said.
