Rondout Valley High School students were selected to participate in various New York State School Music Association Festivals this year, including All-County Chorus, Area All-State, and All-State.

Chosen for the Choral Festival were River Bauer, Laszlo Beke, Adda Lee Braselmann, Francesca Bueti, Carlo Bueti, Ruby Focarino, Stori Gallicchio, Hannah Heijink, Grace Kiszkiel, Graham Palmentiero, Maria Read, and Owin Simmons.

Fourteen Rondout High student musicians were selected to participate in this year’s Area All-State Festival. This event brings together the top musicians from Ulster, Sullivan, Dutchess, Orange, and Rockland counties. Sadie Heagney, Nadja Welden, Heijink, Kiszkiel and Read will perform with the Treble Chorus. Sam Lever, Jackson Paley, Maven Flamhaft and Ellis Picuri will perform with the Symphony Orchestra. Sophia Clark, Freja Ermer, Vivian Gonzales, Aidan Nolan and Ken Schade will play with the Concert Band.

Student musicians Picuri, Paley, Ermer and Schade were chosen to participate in the 2023 All-State Festival in Rochester, N.Y., in December. The students will rehearse and perform with the top student musicians in New York state. In addition, Paley, a clarinetist, was selected to perform as part of the New York Youth Symphony.

The symphony, which is based in New York City, is one of the most-awarded youth programs of its kind in the nation. It is recognized for its innovative and educational programs for talented young musicians. Jackson is among the metropolitan area’s most gifted musicians ages ranging in age from 12 to 22, performing at world-class venues, including Carnegie Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Rondout Valley High Director of Bands Randy Loder and Vocal Music Educator Julianna McCarthy are blown away by the student musicians. “I am very proud of our Rondout Valley musicians who will participate in this year’s festivals,” McCarthy said in a press release. “This opportunity will have an impact on them for years to come! Bravo!”
