More Pete Murray

Australian music favourite, troubadour Pete Murray is working on new music, he revealed on social media yesterday (30 October).

“Back in the studio working on some new music!” Murray wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of himself sitting on a studio floor, acoustic guitar in tow, headphones over his head and a microphone in front of him. You can view the post below.

Earlier this year, Murray was in the studio with producer James Angus, known for his work with Example, Stace Cadet, Camouflage Rose, and The Veronicas. Could Murray’s beloved blend of folk balladry be infused with pop music?

Whatever Murray is working on follows his two most recent releases, Before I Go, an EP born in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and the companion piece to his previous EP, The Night.

In addition to new music, Pete Murray recently starred in The Masked Singer Australia. He was unmasked and revealed to be the sweet voice behind Tiny.

Throughout his run on the show, Murray performed God Only Knows by The Beach BoysA Little Less Conversation alongside contestant Bluebottle, Walking On Sunshine, and more.

“I had SO much fun being Tiny on The Masked Singer Australia,” Murray wrote on Instagram following his elimination from the show. “What a crazy ride that show is! Thanks for playing along Australia and thanks to [judges] Abbie Chatfield, Mel B, Dave Hughes and Chrissie Swan.”

Swan was the one judge to correctly guess Murray’s identity behind the mask.

In March, a “ripped” Pete Murray graced the cover of Men’s Health Magazine. The cover arrived as the singer announced his Greatest Hits Australian tour, which took place in July and August and released his Best Of collection.

With tracks spanning from Feeler to Always A Winner, it’s the greatest hits guaranteed to please. You can purchase the Best Of compilation on CD or vinyl here.

Catching Murray at the Darwin Ski Club earlier this year, The Music writer Brooke Gibbs commented that his show was an “absolute triumph” and added, “From the moment he stepped on stage until the final note, he delivered a performance that was both captivating and emotionally charged.

“His ability to connect with the audience, coupled with his incredible talent, left a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to be in attendance.”
