Open call: TikTok music promotion manager for sub-Saharan Africa

Since its launch in September 2016, the platform has proven to be a major music discovery avenue, fuelling the international popularity of African artists such as CKay, Rema and Black Sherif, whose songs have inspired millions of video creations by TikTok users. TikTok has global offices in Los Angeles, New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Dubai, Singapore, Jakarta, Seoul and Tokyo. 

About the team

 Artist Services is aiming at building an all-in-one platform to better service music creators, labels and other music industry partners from distributing their music, promoting their music, building their audience across TikTok and other ByteDance platforms, analysing their career development to monetising their works via diverse business opportunities. 

  • Business-oriented: Responsible for promotion campaign performance with qualitative and quantitative targets, according to the business objectives.
  • Creator marketing: Build a portfolio of TikTok content creators and ensure their active engagement in music campaigns.
  • Digital campaigns: Work with in-house A&R, marketing, product and artist management teams to ideate, plan and execute regular creator campaigns to promote music via short-video content campaigns. 
  • DSP relationship: Manage external promotional channels, including editorial operation, digital marketing, media and PR, etc, to deliver and improve streaming performance.
  • Discovery and insights: Identify and monitor key digital and social platforms for emerging trends, and creative ideas to effectively communicate with the target audience, and keep optimising promotion strategies. Provide local insights to support product, engineer and strategy teams to iterate product and service strategies.

The successful candidate will be based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Qualifications

  • Five to seven years of experience in digital content, influencer, creator marketing or music related industry. Short video platform working experience is preferred, e.g. TikTok, Instagram, Youtube Shorts etc.
  • Good sense of music content. Have a keen eye to discover viral trends on social media. Have strong abstract capabilities to develop and execute content strategies to establish and amplify trends on TikTok.
  • Strong network within local partners and agencies in sub-Saharan Africa to effectively promote the songs via editorial playlists, radio, TV, and digital channels.
  • Good stakeholder management experience to build and maintain relationships with agencies and creator managers, facilitate the contract and payment process, and negotiate for longer-term collaboration deals.
  • Strong data analysis skills to review, deep-dive analysis, forecast and make decisions based on data.
  • Proficiency in English communication and presentation, Mandarin skill is a bonus. 
  • Good work ethic, self-motivated and result-driven with cross-cultural empathy. TikTok is committed to creating an inclusive space where employees are valued for their skills, experiences, and unique perspectives.
