Many smartphone users use Android Auto to use applications they know from their mobile phones while driving. It can be controlled via the screen in the car and played via the car’s built-in speakers. However, there are still technical problems. Google tries to counter this with frequent app updates, but in many cases it cannot do so in a timely manner.

According to the report, users who use Google’s Pixel smartphones are affected. It is not known if the issue is limited to certain Pixel models. Additionally, at least some users have reported that the error does not always occur. Applications are available at any time and can be controlled. However, no audio signal can be heard – neither through the smartphone’s speakers nor through the car’s hi-fi system.
As an alternative solution, some affected people have restarted their smartphones, reconnected the cell phone to the entertainment system or even played a new song in applications such as Spotify or YouTube Music. In some cases this helped temporarily. After a few minutes, playback stopped again.
Meanwhile, Google has Android Auto version 10.9 Released as a trial version. Experience shows that the update will be distributed to all customers within the next few days. The beta update does not offer any obvious innovations. However, Google usually activates new functionality on the server side.
In recent weeks, among other things, the option to use smartphone wallpapers on the car display has appeared. There are also minor improvements to Google Maps, which we previously reported on in a separate article. It is not known when these improvements will reach the stable version of Android Auto.
For iPhones, there is a similar solution to Android Auto called Apple CarPlay.
