Event Date:

September 25, 2023 – 1:00pm

The speaker at Monday’s Democratic luncheon will be Eric Brooks, Gallery Curator at the Brewery Arts Center. His presentation will spotlight the upcoming Murals & Music Festival, taking place all day on Thursday September 28th, Friday September 29th, and Saturday September 30th.

The festival will feature the work of two dozen local, national and international mural artists on more than 20 walls in and around downtown Carson City. Additionally, nightly musical performances will be on tap for the BAC and the mural sites themselves, where these talented artists will be putting the finishing touches on their artwork. This will culminate of a month’s worth of mural creation.

Other festival-related community activities include docent-led mural tours, artist lectures and talks, children’s art activities, and interactive mural painting with members of the community.

The first Northern Nevada mural festival took place in Reno in 2017. Subsequent festivals brought beautiful public art to the cities of Elko and Fernley. The Carson edition is a collaboration between Carson City, the Brewery Arts Center, and Visit Carson City. Murals will be appearing on the walls of local businesses as well as some private residences.

Eric Brooks has said that he believes this festival will be especially exciting and different, in part because it’s taking place in the state capital instead of another city along Interstate 80. “It’s nice to do a project for people that are appreciative, not to say that the other ones haven’t been, but the excitement here is at a different level than it’s been in other places,” When interviewed by of Jaedyn Young of Double Scoop, he said he thought some of the added interest might come from people here having seen how amazing the murals are in Reno. “Besides,” Brooks said, “murals are at a different level now worldwide than they were in 2017.”

This luncheon is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday, September 25th, and can be attended either in person at Black Bear Diner, inside Max Casino, or online via Zoom. Eric Brooks’ presentation will begin after all the lunch orders have been taken, around 1:30.
