Michael Gudinski documentary set to tell music legend’s untold story – as wife Sue reveals hilarious Frank Sinatra story

An upcoming documentary called Ego about the life of Australian music industry legend Michael Gudinski will be released in cinemas later this month.

The movie will provide a never-before-seen look at the hardworking individual who was instrumental in promoting Aussie music to the world.

A recently released trailer shows A-list stars Ed Sheeran, Dave Grohl and Jimmy Barnes sharing their fond memories of the legendary promoter.

Meanwhile, Gudinski’s widow Sue reveals her husband, who died in 2021 aged 68, had a cheeky side to him that came out when Frank Sinatra toured Australia in 1989.

‘Someone said no-one is allowed to call him “Frank”. He’s referred to as Mr Sinatra,’ she says in the trailer.

However, she said her husband was having none of it and shocked the legendary crooner by addressing him by his first name.

‘He said, “Frank, it’s so good to have you here, we’re in for a feast and we’re going to have a rolling good time tonight”.’

Ego: The Michael Gudinski Story will be released in Australian cinemas on Thursday, August 31.

Michael Gudinski died in March 2021 at the age of 68 and was survived by his wife Sue, children Matt and Kate, and two grandchildren.

The music promoter formed record company Mushroom Records at just 20 years old, and went on to sign and launch the careers of local artists such as Kylie Minogue, who is now one of the biggest pop stars in the world.

In 1979, he established concert promoter Frontier Touring and stayed at its helm until his death.

‘The much-loved Australian music legend died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Melbourne, Australia. Michael Gudinski was a key figure in shaping the Australian music industry.

Gudinski was pictured just days before his passing at a Midnight Oil concert, where he was acting like his ‘typical boisterous, funny self’.
