Kid Rock has issued a bold — and unexpected — message to his fellow Trump supporters in the wake of the 2024 election.
The 53-year-old Southern rocker (real name: Bob Ritchie) has been a vocal supporter of Trump over the years, while also making headlines for brash behavior — in support of his political views — that has frequently been the subject of internet backlash.
But in a video shared to social media on Friday, November 8, the “Picture” artist not only sought to show the world the stark difference between his Kid Rock persona and who he is as Ritchie — but also to “extend an olive branch” to Harris supporters after Trump’s victory on Election Day.
Kid Rock kicks off the video by showing how he, as his musician alter-ego, reacted to Trump’s win — sauntering up to a microphone, cigar dangling from his mouth, dressed in a white MAGA hat and a bright red jumpsuit emblazoned with flames, his trademark long hair flowing wildly around him. Just as is about to speak out, he does an overly-exaggerated mic drop, grabs his crotch and gives the camera the middle finger.
The clip then cuts to a more subdued Ritchie — glasses on, hair tucked into a navy blue Detroit cap, sporting a white T-shirt, shorts and athletic sneakers— showcasing his own election response.
“First off, let me convey to my family, friends, and supporters that now is not the time to gloat,” the “Batwitba” rocker says in a voiceover, as clips of American flags and neighborhoods appear on screen.
“We must remember that most of our left-leaning friends are good people, who want the same things in life as we do, but simply think differently on how to get there. It is now time to be the bigger man, to extend an olive branch and unite all reasonable people of this great nation,” he continues, as the music swells to a crescendo and videos of him performing flash across the screen.
“God has blessed America, and together with President Trump, we will make America great again,” he concludes the voiceover, set to footage of Trump’s assassination attempt, including the former president raising a triumphant fist in the air in the immediate aftermath. The video ultimately ends with promotion for Kid Rock’s headlining slot in the Rock the Country music festival.
The “All Summer Long” artist’s message of unity is in stark contrast to some of his most recent headline-making behavior, which included his initial, profanity-filled response to Trump’s assassination attempt over the summer.
“You f*** with Trump, you f*** with me,” Kid Rock said directly into the camera at the time.
The singer’s apparent penchant for guns has also caused significant backlash over the years, like the time — according to the Rolling Stone journalist who conducted the interview — he pulled out a gun during their discussion for the magazine’s profile on him.
“I got a f***ing goddamn gun right here if I need it,” Kid Rock allegedly said during the interview. “I got them everywhere!”
He proved as much during his widely-criticized reaction video to Bud Light partnering with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney.
“F*** Bud Light and f*** Anheuser-Busch,” Kid Rock said in his July 2023 video, in which he openly shot at cans of the beer.
