The artist, who hailed from Mombasa in the Coast region of Kenya, was known for hit songs like ‘Maria’, ‘Bembea’, ‘Yelele’ and ‘Kadzo’, among others.

“I join the music fraternity in mourning the passing of Ally B, a musician who harnessed his talent to foster unity and harmony in our society,” Ruto said. “Ali Khamisi Mwanguli inscribed his message of peace deep within our hearts, and we will forever carry that meaningful tune. May God provide solace to his family, friends and devoted fans.”

Local media report President Ruto has donated Ksh500 000 ($3 300) towards his funeral expenses.

Various artists and music industry stakeholders from the Coast region have eulogised the late artist, with renowned radio presenter Mzazi Willy M. Tuva announcing on X he will dedicate his Thursday afternoon show to Ally B.

Tuva said: “We dedicate today’s show to the memory of Ally B. I will be talking to people close to him – family, fellow artists and fans. We remember him through his music and unforgettable moments. Let’s celebrate our brother and legend on #MsetoTBT 1pm-4pm @RadioCitizenFM.”

According to local media, the musician’s family said he suddenly fell ill and was rushed to hospital where he died on Wednesday afternoon.

Other leaders who conveyed their condolences include the speaker of senate Amason Kingi and former Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho.

“I convey my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and fans of Ally B who passed away in Mombasa,” Kingi said. “Ally B was a talented artist whose music featured prominently in the entertainment landscape both at the Coast, across Kenya and beyond our borders. We have lost a young and dynamic youth who was an inspiration to many upcoming artists. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
