Jim Jones has strict boundaries when it comes to his personal space, and a new fan-recorded video shows that he is firm about establishing them too.
On Monday (January 8), a social media user who goes by Skiboky Shavar Stora shared a clip of him approaching the Dipset MC outside a store in New York City while recording on his smartphone.
“You better ask me before you take a video,” the rapper told him, visibly upset about being on camera without granting permission.
“I was giving you some love, Black man,” the fan responded, which still didn’t seem to pacify the 47-year-old.
Celebrities often deal with fans and media encroaching on their privacy without consent, though not everyone is able to maintain their cool like Jones did in the above clip.
Last year, Kanye West was sued for assault when he snatched and tossed a photographer’s phone. According to TMZ, Nichol Lechmanik says she feared for her life and was left “traumatized and humiliated” by Ye as a result of the incident. She further claimed that she lost out on income from losing possession of her phone.
Footage of the incident was captured by the reporter’s business partner last January. In it, the rapper and producer could be seen approaching their car window after he and his wife Bianca Censori were followed for a while, flashing what Lechmanik called a “death stare” in her direction.
“You all ain’t gonna run up on me like that,” he could be heard telling her. “If I say stop, stop with your cameras.”
The Chicago native then proceeded to rip the phone out of Lechmanik’s hands and toss it in the street, with the photographer claiming it fell on oncoming traffic.
She subsequently filed a police report, after which the authorities looked into the possible battery and eventually cleared Kanye on all charges. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office revealed the phone wasn’t broken and its $30 case only suffered minor damage on the exterior.
In her lawsuit, Lechmanik is suing Kanye for assault, battery and negligence, and is seeking an injunction banning Yeezy from interacting with any photographers.
