Hundreds attend AycLive music festival in Newton Aycliffe

AycLive drew crowds to the OakLeaf sports field in Newton Aycliffe today (July 29) to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the town itself.

Families and music fans were all a part of the long day, as they hauled deck chairs and snacks across the field to be as comfortable as possible for the show.

Headlining the eleven hour event was popular 90s bands Cast and Dodgy, with rock band Sound Divide also having a positive effect on the crowd.

Sound Divide got the crowd up and dancing with covers of the viral song Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush and Heart of Glass by Blondie.

Making up the rest of the acts was local group Another Crisis, The Breakfast Club, Sleeze Sisters, Gangsters of Ska and Northern Soul Elite.

Attendees could also grab a drink at the fully stocked bar, with a pint of lager setting people back around £6 and fizzy drink cans were priced at £2.

Organisers believe tickets were reasonably priced, at £20, for adults, and £15 for under-18s, in the 14 to 17 age band, with free entry for under-14s accompanying a ticket-holding adult.

Gary and Mel, from Darlington, attended the festival and admitted they had been looking forward to the day for a long time.

Gary said: “We booked this as soon as it became available, so we have been waiting months and months.

“We do just hope the weather holds up!”

Mel added: “I’m waiting for Cast later on this evening, so that is something I am really looking forward to.

“So far though, it has been a great show.”

Susanne and Jacqui from Newton Aycliffe were also at the festival and commented how positive it was to see the community out in force.

Susanne said: “It has been fantastic so far, and great to see everyone out to celebrate the day as we are locals too.

“We are just thinking about the weather and hoping it doesn’t rain!”
