To wrap up a long, hot Hong Kong summer, music and arts festival Shi Fu Miz returns for a three-day extravaganza of electronic vibes by the ocean, showcasing genres spanning techno, house, disco, funk and breakbeat.
Founded in 2016, Shi Fu Miz takes its name from a French variation of the game rock-paper-scissors. Co-founder Florian Melinette explains how it came about.
“I contacted [Paris-based DJ and event-organiser collective] La Mamie’s on Instagram in 2015 during their Asia tour. We had a great discussion about their Macki Music Festival in France and my wish to create one in Hong Kong.
“Less than a year later, we launched the first edition of Shi Fu Miz on Lantau Island.”

After a Covid-19 hiatus, Shi Fu Miz will return for its sixth edition on October 27 to 29, with 5,000 festivalgoers expected to descend on Cheung Chau for the three-day event.
The picturesque Saiyuen Camping Adventure Park will host a line-up of more than 60 techno DJs and musical acts from around the globe, headlined by American techno duo Octave One.

Joining them will be music producer Antal Heitlager, a co-founder of Dutch record label Rush Hour, France’s Camion Bazar, Italy’s Gigi Testa and London-based South African DJ and producer Esa Williams.
From Asia come Japan’s Soichi Terada, South Korea’s Mogwaa, and Bagvs and Gero from Indonesia, alongside other musicians from Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines.
Hong Kong techno heads can expect some familiar faces on stage with a line-up of more than 25 local DJs, including Xiaolin, Arthur Bray, Yadin Moha and – music to ravers’ ears – a Mihn Club takeover.

“Shi Fu Miz has a good, balanced line-up between local and foreign talent. There are a lot of good artists playing, and it’s in a beautiful location,” says Hong Kong-based, internationally renowned music producer, DJ and Klasse Wrecks record label owner Mr Ho.
“What I’m even happier about is that my friends from abroad have to travel to my hometown while I get to go and sleep in my own bed after a gig, for once.”
The festival will also offer non-musical experiences, including lighting and art installations and workshops for yoga, meditation, breathwork and sound healing.

“We’re trying to bring something unique to the fragrant harbour, mixing high-quality bookings with well-being, sustainability and a nature vibe with beach and glamping,” says Melinette.
Three-day passes are HK$1,280 while one-day tickets range from HK$580 to HK$880. Free entry for children aged 12 and under, accompanied by ticket-holding adults.
