MELAKA: A man slashed the neck of his workmate following a verbal exchange over loud music at a foreign workers’ hostel in Pantai Puteri.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the suspect, a 28-year-old Myanmar national, was detained following a report lodged by the hostel warden on Thursday (Nov 2).

He said the victim had survived the attack with severe injuries to his neck and initially received treatment at a private clinic here before being rushed to Melaka Hospital.

The victim’s condition is currently stable.

ACP Christopher Patit said the perpetrator had used a kitchen knife to attack the 35-year-old victim, who is also a foreigner.

He said the incident happened at 3pm on Thursday. It started with a fierce argument after the suspect accused the victim of disturbing his peace by playing loud music.

ACP Christopher Patit said the suspect, who was intoxicated at that time, started arguing with the victim before another of their countryman attempted to quell the quarrel.

“At this point, the suspect grabbed a knife and attacked the victim before the warden intervened and rushed the latter to a nearby clinic,” he said on Friday (Nov 3).

ACP Christopher Patit added that the suspect was detained at 6.50pm on Thursday to assist the investigation under Section 376 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
