Gang crime squad detectives are investigating if the stabbing attack on notorious former Hells Angels bikie Dayne Brajkovich was an act of retribution.

Mr Brajkovic, 44, was stabbed in the neck about 9.50pm Friday as people were leaving the Ministry of Sound Classical EDM concert at Perth’s Kings Park and Botanical Garden.

Police said he received ‘a serious laceration injury to his neck’ in the attack, before being rushed to Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) for emergency surgery.

Detective Senior Sergeant Anthony Thompson addressed the media on Saturday afternoon, confirming they believe it was a targeted attack.

‘At this stage, we believe the incident is a result of an in-house gang-related issue between the Hells Angels and a former member,’ Detective Senior Sergeant Thompson said.

‘The parties involved are known to each other and the possibility this incident is the result of a retribution issue is certainly an avenue we are investigating.’

Mr Brajkovic was reportedly kicked out of the Hells Angels in January 2022 after allegedly assaulting the club president at the time.

He was seen leaving RPH early on Saturday morning with his wife Jacinta, and a large dressing on his throat, before his vehicle was followed by a police detail.

Detective Senior Sergeant Thompson said investigating detectives must have thought it was appropriate to escort Mr Brajkovic from a public area.

‘We do have an ongoing concern for his safety, but also any person who was considering assaulting the victim should reconsider that because we are putting a number of measures in place to ensure his security and ensure that any person who does attack him is appropriately recorded,’ he said.

A group were seen fleeing Kings Park on motorcycles shortly after the attack.

Detective Senior Sergeant Thompson said the ‘immature, violent outbursts’ will be met with ‘serious consequences.’

‘If you, as an outlaw motorcycle gang, choose to inflict violence in the community, the result of that we will lawfully restrict your behaviours because we don’t want members of the public being put at greater risk,’ he said.

‘All they’re concerned about is their own self-interest. whatever their reason is, the immaturity in regards to trying to target this person. ‘

Detectives are seeking any photos or vision taken of the incident or the people involved.

Vision or images can be uploaded directly to police here, while other information can be passed on to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Reports can also be made online.

Police will provide more information in a media conference later on Saturday.

Mr Brajkovich is known for his extensive facial tattoos, and always being seen wearing his trademark gold chain and bracelet – worth about $216,000 and $103,000, respectively – as well as eight 16-karat gold rings, items he’s previously referred to as his ‘legal knuckle dusters.’

In January this year he was acquitted of two charges relating to alleged display of gang insignia, with WA Police having to pay him $4000 in court costs.

He made headlines again in March in the fallout from the Perth Mint gold doping scandal.

The ABC had revealed Perth Mint had gold bars they were trying to sell to the Shanghai Gold Exchange knocked back because they didn’t meet purity requirements.

Part of the Four Corners investigation alleged Mint employees hadn’t carried out background checks on Mr Brajkovich when he walked in and bought $27,000 in gold with cash.
