Dame Sarah Connolly Stars in the 2024 Pažaislis Music Festival

Details of the 2024 Pažaislis Music Festival have been announced.

Mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly performs the works of Berlioz and Ravel with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Chief Conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius. She is joined by the Kaunas State Choir.

Performance date: May 31, 2024

Mezzo-soprano Vilija Mikštaitė and tenor Mindaugas Zimkus give a concert of works by Robert Schumann, Claudio Monteverdi, and Frederick Loewe.

Performance date: June 2, 2024

Tenor Edgaras Montvidas and pianist Simon Lepper present music by Robert Schumann, Richard Strauss, Samuel Barber, and Žibuoklė Martinaitytė.

Performance date: June 4, 2024

Composer Diana Čemerytė and librettists Sonata Latvėnaitė-Kričenienė and Jolanta Vaišvilienė’s opera “Musical History: The Riddle of the Unicorn” is performed by Orė Didžiulytė and Žemyna Kričenaitė. They are joined by the Vilnius Choir Singing School Liepaitė Youth Choir and other student singers. Karolina Ramonė conducts.

Soprano Asta Krikščiūnaitė and the Klaipėda Brass Quintet present a program of sacred music in “Frescoes in Music.”

Performance date: June 14, 2024

Soprano Viktorija Miškūnaitė and tenor Karolis Kašiuba present “Giacomo Puccini: The Immortal Opera Master.” Constantine Orbelian conducts the Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra and Robertas Šervenikas conducts the Kaunas State Choir.

Performance date: June 20, 2024

Next up is a concert performance of Jules Massenet’s “Thérèse.” Soloists include Justina Gringytė, Egdaras Montvidas, Tadas Girininkas, Karolis Kašiuba, Steponas Zonys, and Raimundas Juzuitis. Ričardas Šumila conducts the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre Symphony Orchestra and the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre Male Choir.

Performance date: June 26, 2024

Arūnas Malikėnas, Mindaugas Jankauskas, Mindaugas Zimkus, Giedrius Prunskus, Joris Rubinovas, and Robertas Šervenikas serves as soloists in Bartulis’ oratorio “Job the Unfortunate.” Robertas Šervenikas conducts the Kaunas State Choir and Constantine Orbelian leads the Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra.

Performance date: July 14, 2024

Artistic Director and tenor Povilas Vanžodis leads the Ensemble Duodeco in the works of Vytautas Miškinis, Lukasz Urbaniak, Edward Bairstow, Moses Hogan, Ivo Antognini, Charles Villiers Stanford, Eric Whitacre, Jennifer Lucy Cook, Caroline Shaw, Howard Skempton, and Ily Matthew Maniano. The ensemble also includes sopranos Augustė Andrijauskaitė, and Justina Leinartaitė, mezzo-sopranos Ūla Zemeckytė and Evita Rudžionytė, tenor Evaldas Alekna, and basses Gabrielius Gaidamavičius and Arūnas Maliukas.

The Choir Veritas and Gregorian Choir Cantores Montis Pacis lead by Christoph Hönerlage present “Vexilla Regis Prodeunt.”

Performance date: August 2, 2024

“Songs of the Knights” is performed by baritone Eugenijus Chrebtovas and pianist Raminta Lampsatytė. Works by Maurice Ravel, Jacques Ibert, and Mitch Leigh are featured on the concert.

Performance date: August 8, 2024

“The Waking Misteries of the History” is performed by soprano Gabrielė Bukinė, bass Joris Rubinovas, and the Vdu Chamber Orchestra. Vytautas Lukočius, Rita Bieliauskaitė, and Vytautas Lukočius conduct.

Performance date: August 11, 2024

“The Feast of the Assumption at Pažaislis” is presented by the Kaunas State Choir with conductors Robertas Šervenikas and Mindaugas Radzevičius.

Performance date: August 15, 2024

Soprano Gabrielė Bukinė, baritone Giedrius Prunskus, and the Kaunas Piano Trio give “80 Minutes: Giedrius Kuprevičius And Friends.”

Performance date: August 17, 2024

Closing out the festival is Laimis Vilkončius’ “The Creation of the World.” Soloists include soprano Ona Kolobovaitė, mezzo-soprano Ieva Prudnikovaitė,  tenor Egidijus Bavikinas, baritone Steponas Zonys, and vocalist Jeronimas Milius. Gintaras Rinkevičius and Robertas Šervenikas lead the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra and Kaunas State Choir, respectively.
