Create NSW announces latest funding round

The recipients of the latest round of the New South Wales Government’s Arts and Cultural Funding Program for 2023/24 have been announced.

$9.3m is shared between 138 NSW-based projects and programs across Aboriginal arts and culture, dance, festivals, history and museums, literature, music, theatre and visual arts.

Among the recipients are a writing program for people with disability in the Blue Mountains, a new local music and arts festival in Wollongong, an Aboriginal cultural festival in Condobolin, a theatre production written and performed by creatives in the Northern Rivers, and a writing mentorship project amplifying under-represented stories from local communities in Western Sydney.

In the music sector, annual funding has been secured by organisations including Omega Ensemble ($150,000), The Song Company ($160,000), Australian Haydn Ensemble ($150,000), Sydney Improvised Music Association ($110,000), Percussion Australia – the parent organisation of music ensembles Synergy Percussion and Taikoz ($200,000).

The contemporary music-focused, Wollongong-based Yours & Owls Events has secured $181,000 for its emerging musicians career development program. Green Music Australia receives $98,000 for its Greening the NSW Music Scene initiative.

Among organisations receiving project funding in this round are: Australian Theatre for Young People, bAKEHOUSE Independent Theatre, Music NSW (for First Nations capacity building), New Ghosts Theatre Company (recently announced as the new curating team at the Old Fitzroy Theatre), the Orange Chamber Music Festival and Australian Digital Concert Hall.

Announcing the funding, Annette Pitman, Chief Executive of Create NSW said: “The work by our visionary creatives and cultural teams tells our unique stories through the power of arts and culture, connecting us in an unforgettable way.”
