Vadodara: An eight-year-old girl from the city has bagged a gold and the artist of the year award for her tabla skills. Tejal Jagtap, a class 3 student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Air Force Station, Darjipura, has won the gold medal at the performing arts held at Bangkok.
“The 12th cultural olympiad of performing arts was organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Sanskrutik Sangh (ABSS), Pune in partnership with UNESCO,” said Tejal’s father Sachin Jagtap, who is a music teacher at the same school and also a tabla player.Under her father’s guidance, Tejal had started playing tabla since she was just five-years-old.
“My daughter had participated in the first round, the national level competition, which was held in Pune in May after which she was recommended for the international music competition that was held at Thailand last month,” said Sachin.
“She was adjudged the first rank with a gold medal in the age category of 8 to 12 years in the instrumental category,” he said, adding that the budding artist was also presented artist of the year award.
The young girl has also received support from her mother Gunjan, a classical singer and her uncle Rohit Jagtap, a chartered accountant by profession.
“At this young age, she has received blessings from renowned musical and guru taal yogi Pandit Suresh Talawalkar , Pandit Yogesh Samsi, Pandit Jayant Naik, Pandit Atul Kumar Upadhyay, Swapnil Bhise, Yashwant Vaishanv and Rajib Bhattacharjee,” he added.

Pet dog attacks 4-year-old girl on b’day eve in Bulandshahr, owner held
In Meerut, a 4-year-old girl was attacked by a pet dog in Khurja area of Bulandshahr, sustaining injuries on her face and neck. The incident occurred while she was going to get sweets from a nearby shop. The dog, which was off leash and not sterilised, bit her on the face, causing her to lose two teeth. The child was rescued and taken to CHC, but had to be referred to Safdarjung hospital in Delhi due to the non-availability of anti-rabies serum. The dog owner has been arrested and an FIR has been registered against him under IPC section 324.
