(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The World Music Festival Chicago is fanning out across the city until Oct. 1.
“The World Music Festival is a 10-day celebration of music from around the world. A lot of the groups you’re seeing that are headlining the festival each night — most of those groups have traveled here,” says programmer Carlos Tortolero with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.
The festival was launched in 1999 to celebrate international music and the city of Chicago at the same time.
“When you’re experiencing the world during our festival, you’re also experiencing Chicago because you’re seeing different parts of the city, you’re interacting with different cultural groups embedded in our community,” Tortolero said.
The festival will feature more than 30 artists representing more than 20 countries (schedule here).
