A Canadian-Israeli woman who was initially considered missing after Hamas militants ambushed a musical festival last weekend in Israel is dead. Others were killed in the attack, and Hamas reportedly abducted a number of attendees at the event.

Shir Georgy, 22, vanished after Hamas carried out a surprise attack at the Tribe of Nova music festival on October 7, which took place in southern Israel. Yahoo News reported that Palestinian militants attacked the event, resulting in the death of at least 260 people.

Georgy’s aunt, Michal Bouganim, took to Instagram to express her heartbreak following the news that her niece was dead. The family reportedly planned to have a funeral in Israel over the weekend.

The Instagram post read: “My family received the terrible news. It is with great sadness and a broken heart that we announce the murder of our beloved Shir. Details about the funeral to follow.”

There were a number of comments below the post, expressing sympathies for the family’s loss. One Instagram user said: “There isn’t a word in any language that I know to say about this madness. It’s unfair, it’s beyond sad and as a mother my heart hurts for you. I live very far away from you, and yet I hope the genuine love and prayers that I’m sending you can add a bit of comfort. Hold on to the beautiful memories, those can never be taken.”

There were additional sympathies posted to X, formerly known as Twitter. Pierre Poilievre, MP of Carleton in Canada, posted: “Thinking of the family and friends of Canadian-Israeli Shir Georgy who was brutally murdered at the hands of the terrorist death cult, Hamas. May her memory be a blessing.”

Georgy is now the fourth Canadian known to have been killed during Hamas’ attack against Israel. Others include Ali Vital-Kaploun, 33; Ben Mizrachi, 22; and Alexandre Look.

Many Canadians have pushed for the government to find a way to get Canadians out of Gaza. The initial effort to get Canadians out of the area by traveling through Rafah Crossing into Egypt has reportedly fallen through, per Globe and Mail.

The U.S. government has also been slow in formulating a plan to get Americans out of the high-danger area. Glenn Beck and Cory Mills have taken matters into their own hands, organizing methods to help get Americans back home.

It is uncertain how many Americans are stranded overseas.
