A 43-year-old man drowned in the river at the Shambhala Music Festival this past weekend in the West Kootenays.

According to a BC RCMP media release, the man’s body was discovered, July 24, by two divers who had been contracted to pull garbage out of the river during the festival.

The divers pulled the man to shore but were unable revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police suspect he drowned and no foul play is involved.

The man was 43-years-old and from Calgary. They have not released his name.

The Shambhala Music Festival is held near Salmo in the West Kootenays.

Police haven’t been able to confirm whether the man was part of the music festival.
