The organisers, Dean Creighton, landlord of The Queen’s Head, and TV music composer Roger Bolton, have booked six singer/songwriters to perform on their new Marquee Stage.

Mr Bolton said: “For the 29th anniversary this Bank Holiday Monday, Box Rocks will host eight bands on the Main Stage and an additional six singer/songwriters on the new Marquee Stage.

“As active promoters of ‘live’ music and up-and-coming local bands, we both strive to provide platforms for new singer/songwriters both ‘live’ and in the studio.

“The plan is to try out the new, mainly acoustic, Marquee Stage in preparation for next year’s big 30th anniversary.”

Local indie band The Sunnies will be performing at 6pm on the coveted Main Stage, as they were ‘noticed’ earlier this year as winners of the Riverside Studios ‘Take to the Stage’ and played at the Minety Festival last month.

Also this year, to add to the mix, is actor and MC Pavel Douglas, whose face will be familiar to those who watched BBC’s Eastenders a few years back.

The actor, who hails from Krakow in Poland, also appeared in the 1995 James Bond movie GoldenEye, as well as The Princess Switch (2018) and Lovejoy (1986).

The line-up on the Marquee Stage is confirmed so far as: Anthony Gunner, who has worked with Roland Orzabal from Tears for Fears; James Warren from The Korgis accompanied by Ollie Davies, a local peripatetic primary schools guitar teacher; Mason James, the former lead singer of Boston Green, now performing his own solo material; The Folk Ewes with their own brand of punk-ish humour; Listen with Francis aka Alex Wesley, who was formerly signed to Universal Records Dubai; and Tara MacLean from Canada, who has toured with Dido, Tom Cochrane and Lilith Fair.

Mr Bolton added: “There might be a few other surprise guest appearances, whether it come rain or shine.”

Box Rocks was co-founded by Mr Creighton and Mr Bolton in 1994 at the Queen’s Head pub in Box and has so far raised over £50,000 for charity.

The Dorothy House Hospice Care charity in Winsley is once again this year’s chosen charity after receiving £7,000 in 2022.
