It’s Blue Ox time in the Chippewa Valley as Thursday marked the opening day for the bluegrass and Americana festival.

EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) – It’s Blue Ox time in the Chippewa Valley as Thursday marked the opening day for the bluegrass and Americana festival.

Blue Ox Music Festival is in its 10th year, and the big anniversary comes with big celebration. The sold-out festival includes a wide variety of activities, ranging from disc golf, local art installations and music workshops.

The event draws thousands of music lovers nationwide and features over 35 artists across three stages.

Upright bassist for Pert Near Sandstone, Justin Bruhn, reflected on his experience with the festival.

“All the artists we’ve seen go from like sort of smaller, getting their foothold, to blowing up to the point that where it’s hard for us to get some of the artists that we’ve had in the past,” Bruhn said. “It’s gratifying and kind of cool and lends some credibility to what we’re doing here.”

Pert Near Sandstone has been a part of the festival since the very beginning, hosting every single year. Some of the musicians performing this weekend include Sierra Ferrell, Sam Bush Band and local favorites Them Coulee Boys.
