A war of words has broken out over who reigns supreme in the world of female rappers.

It all started when rapper Trina declared Beyoncé was “the Queen of Rap” during an interview at the One Music Festival in October, but went viral when recently shared on social media.

“Yeah, Beyoncé,” Trina answered when asked who she thought was the best female rapper of all time. “‘Cause she’s like the number one female rapper when she does rap. When you hear her do a song and it’s rapping involved, it’s just like, ‘Oh my god.’ It’s more inspiration.”

Trina added she named Beyoncé for her answer because she helped open the door for other women in the rap world and how she branched out creatively.

Beyoncé has rapped on a number of songs over the years including “Apes***”, “Upgrade U,” the Grammy-award winning collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, “Savage,” and the “Flawless Remix,” with fellow rapper Nicki Minaj who she has worked with several times.

However, Minaj’s fans, known as the “Barbz,” were not happy with Trina’s response and said so online, with many arguing Beyoncé was a singer first and foremost.

“The funny part about that Trina interview is not the Beyoncé opening doors comment it’s the fact that Trina has been in the game for 20+ years and couldn’t even say her own name,” wrote one person on X, formerly Twitter.

Another added: “trina still mad at nicki because she wouldn’t pay for her last album entire rollout like it was her own… like what do you mean beyoncé opened doors for female rap LMFAOOOOOO.”

And a third commented: “trina did exactly what i said she would. yall can cry b**** & moan all day. she still gonna feel how she feels. nicki will still be the queen of rap & beyoncé will still be the first lady of MUSIC. the world keeps spinning. carry on.”

But one musician agreed with Trina’s take.

“Put some respect on RapYoncé. Trina knew what she was talking about. We just discredit the rapper Beyoncé potentially can be because she’s literally just playing with it when she does it but could step up toe-to-toe with some of your favs if she wanted,” PeJay posted on X.

Trina was having none of the criticism and labeled the trolls as “dusty a** b******” on her Instagram stories and later doubled down on her opinion in a lengthy post.

“Now that I have y’all undivided attention ‼️” she began. “Let me just make myself CLEAR once again… I said what I said .. that’s the Queen Bey and I’m gonna STAN on that Beyonce is the Queen of rap (when she raps) and ALL genres of music when it comes to me ‼️ go argue with the IRS or somebody else idc and that’s not up for debate over here.”

Trina is not the only person to praise Beyoncé’s rapping skills, even her husband Jay-Z, often described as one of the greatest rappers in history, has said multiple times she was one of the best, including in a 2007 interview with Charlie Rose.

“She was rapping on key… she’s a very talented person,” he said.

Jay also included her in a thread of the best rappers when he tweeted his list back in 2021.

Another rap superstar, Chance The Rapper, gushed about Beyoncé skills.

“Beyoncé is my favorite rapper,” he wrote in reply to Jay’s thread.
