Speaking about lead single, Miracle Without Shoes, he says: “It’s my take on those I’ve known in life who struggle on a fine line between genius and breakdown, it’s a message that says ‘mind yourself’. I’ve taken a new route with the upcoming second record and look forward to sharing it far and wide on record and through live shows.”

Tell us three things about yourself . . .

I think in melody, I make my time count, I love good company.

How would you describe your music?

Indie pop to alternative pop, but I’m not shy to push the boundaries and that’s my musical intention.

Who are your musical inspirations?

The The, David Bowie, Rick Wakeman, De La Soul, Prince, Peter Gabriel, George Gershwin and, as complete sidewinder, Gabriel Fauré.

What was the first gig you ever went to?

U2 at Croke Park in 1985, supported by the then unknown (hardly! – Ed) R.E.M. R.E.M. knocked it out of the stadium and I’ll never forget it.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Low by David Bowie.

What’s your favourite song right now?

Miracle Without Shoes by John Gallen, it’s great because it’s a new direction for the music in my second album and I’m very excited to be getting the music out. If that sounds vain, I apologise but I’m very proud of it.

Favourite lyric of all time?

“As the flames rose to her Roman nose, And her Walkman started to melt”. Bigmouth Strikes Again by The Smiths.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

The Truth by Kygo.

Where can people find your music/more information?

All music platforms. My second album, Rizla, Smokes, Music & Wine, will be available on delicious vinyl in mid-November. My first album, 1970s, is available online, and it’s also on Vinyl and CD at Golden Discs. Instagram: @johngallenmusic, Facebook: john_gallen_music, TikTok: @johngallenmusic.
