Entertainment events intensified in December as many people went on holiday to celebrate Christmas and usher in the New Year.

Indeed last month there was a list of live events meant to entertain fans. But now that the festive season is over things have slowed down on the arts front.

In random interviews musicians said they have slowed down this month in terms of live performances.

They all indicated that they are on a break due to lack of bookings and fatigue.

Rapper Tay Grin said he does not have any performances lined up for January as he takes the month as his holiday.

“I will not be performing or making any public appearances. But behind the scene, I will surely be working towards putting something together. It is my creative time. I don’t want to go to shows, but finalising my new content for the year,” he said.

Black Missionaries Band leader Anjiru Fumulani said they only have one booking on January 15 at MD in Chileka.

“January is a dry month in terms of bookings. So, we normally take a break and rest after a crazy December schedule,” he said.

Piksy said he is taking a break in January to rest, reflect and travel.

“It has been a bust festive season with back to back performances. Now I rest and will only be back on stage on January 29 at HS Winehouse,” he said.

Dan Lu also indicated that he has nothing planned for January.  “I will be resting, spending time with my family and new baby,” he said.

Another regular performer Lulu said he has no bookings and will use the time to record music.

McDonald Soko, who owns 27/7 Club at Kameza Roundabout in Blantyre, said business is slow in January so they have not planned any live music events.

But Scallas manager Jayson Joshi said they have not slowed down and will on Sunday hold their regular live performances with Mingoli Band.

On his part, Tonderai Banda who runs Stake Out Bar at Amaryllis Hotel said they are planning to have a performance at the venue soon. During the festive season, musicians and other performers entertained fans and fun-seekers in events such as the Castel Music Festival, the White Party, Entertainers of the Year, The Hive Experience and many more. n
