Hell’s Kitchen, the original musical that premiered Off-Broadway in October featuring a score by Alicia Key, is officially headed to Broadway.

“Good things take time and for 13 years, I’ve been dreaming, developing and finding inspiration for a musical based on my experience growing up in Hell’s Kitchen, NYC,” Keys said Monday in a statement. “Hell’s Kitchen is inspired by my life, but it’s not a biographical story. It’s a story about family relationships and identity: Who are we? Who do we want to be? Who are we becoming?”

After the musical concludes its run at Off-Broadway’s Public Theater on Jan. 14, 2024, it will begin performances March 28 at Broadway’s Shubert Theatre ahead of an official April 20 opening night.

Keys went on to discuss her love and appreciation for musicals and the producers and talent involved in bringing her show to life. “I love and respect the art form so much and I’m excited to see it come to Broadway,” she said.

Keys wrote the music and lyrics for the musical, which features a book by Kristoffer Diaz and direction by Michael Greif.

The cast of the Broadway transfer will be announced at a later date.

“I play her mother,” star Shoshana Bean told The Messenger in July. “It’s loosely based on [Keys’] life story growing up in Hell’s Kitchen here in New York. It’s, for the most part, a jukebox musical. It’s her music from her albums, [and] it’s like a mother-daughter slash New York love story.”

The official description reads, “There’s a place where the rhythm of the city is music, where every corner has a story, and every window is a kaleidoscope. Where a girl can step out of her apartment and find the world. That’s Hell’s Kitchen, a new musical from 15-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys that’s about to make Broadway feel brand new.”

Pre-sale for tickets to Hell’s Kitchen Broadway engagement begins at 10 a.m. ET on Friday.
