Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy have been quizzed by Cam Newton about Jess Hilarious’ status as a potentially permanent co-host of The Breakfast Club — but fans are no closer to getting an answer.

Appearing on the Power 105 radio show alongside fellow NFL legend Brandon Marshall on Thursday (January 25), the conversation shifted to the current status of the morning show, which has been without a third host since Angela Yee left in 2022.

The former NFL MVP, who played for the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots, turned the tables on the hosts and began asking them questions.

Newton said: “Hold on. What happened? The people wanna know — I wanna know [what happened] with Jess Hilarious.”

Charlamagne completely ignored the question so Newton reiterated: “What happened to Jess Hilarious on The Breakfast Club?”

Charlamagne and Envy then promptly wrapped the interview, leading to Newton tapping his microphone and commenting: “Is this thing on?”

Watch the exchange at the 1:25:30 mark below.

Jess Hilarious had been a guest host on The Breakfast Club a number of times last year and appeared to announce that she had taken on the role full time, but no announcement came from the show or network.

Charlamagne recently said he was “not happy” about the confusion surrounding the show and confirmed that they would not go back to rotating guest hosts.

Asked by TMZ about the co-host situation earlier this month, he said: “I would really like to know. I just came from downstairs. It was just me and Envy doing the show again.

“Everybody saw us rotating guest hosts last year and we said we were gonna start 2024 off with a new host and that hasn’t happened yet … I am done with the rotating of the guest hosts.”

Jess Hilarious has since called out Charlamagne and Envy, albeit for comparing SZA to Mary J. Blige.

“These N-ggas trash. Envy shut up! I know artists be pissed when old heads do this bc now everybody negatively comparing SZA to MJB and it ain’t even her fault! She has her own identity already,” she wrote on Instagram earlier this week.

Given Hilarious’ comments about The Breakfast Club stalwarts, it seems unlikely she will be taking Yee’s seat on the show.
