5 Things to Do This Week: Eddie Cochran Car Show and Music Festival, Take a Kid Fishing and more

Eddie Cochran Car Show and Music Festival

Join the Albert Lea community this week for the Eddie Cochran Car Show and Music Festival. 

In addition to the car show, the event will cover multiple days and have food trucks, live music, activities for kids, soapbox car races and more. Sock Hop at the Broadway

Come with your whole family to the Sock Hop at the Broadway for a night of 1950s inspired fun. The event is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Broadway. There will be classic music, dancing, cold bottled Coke and cocktails. Guests are invited to wear poodle skirts, leather jackets or other ’50s attire to add to the authenticity of the night.

Pickleball classes 

Albert Lea Community Education will host an eight-session class for people who want to learn the trendy and fun sport of pickleball. The first session will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Frank Hall Park courts. Classes will continue to run until Aug. 1. Participants do not need to bring a partner, paddle or ball but are welcome to do so. They are encouraged to bring a water bottle, sunglasses and sunscreen. Summer citywide garage sales in Albert Lea

While in town for Eddie Cochran weekend, shop local for some good deals during the citywide garage sales from Thursday through Sunday. Freeborn County Historical Museum will host a yard sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, and there will be many others hosted by individuals.

Take a Kid Fishing Weekend

Stop over at any of your favorite fishing spots this weekend for Minnesota’s Take a Kid Fishing Weekend. From Friday through Sunday, people who go fishing with a child age 15 or under do not need to have a fishing license for the weekend. It is a great opportunity to introduce the sport to the children your life. Fountain Lake Sportsmen’s Club and the Albert Lea Anglers will host a free fishing rod giveaway from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Edgewater Park.
