Keene Music Festival hits 20 years of tunes – The Equinox

Practically 60 bands spanning throughout musical genres took over downtown Keene for the twentieth annual Keene Music Pageant on September 3. 

The competition arrange six phases all through downtown Keene, together with Central Sq., Railroad Sq., Lamson Avenue, the Monadnock Co-Op stage, and the Metropolis Tire parking zone. Performers rotated on and off the phases all day, from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

From bluegrass to punk, Keene Music Pageant included over a dozen genres. 

“There [was] bluegrass, lot’s of punk, borderline heavy steel music, indie rock, a variety of singer-songwriters… even an digital band,” Small-Martel stated. 

Among the many singer-songwriters that carried out was Quincy Lord, who carried out along with his self-titled band on the Central Sq. Stage.

Lord isn’t any stranger to the Keene Music Pageant, having carried out each solo and along with his band in prior festivals. 

“[In] my band, we’ve got 4 of us…That is the primary time [at the festival] with this lineup,” Lord stated. “We have been right here 2017 to 2019, generally it was simply me acoustically, however we’ve been right here with the band twice.” 

In an effort to shift from his solo profession and deal with the band, Lord stated his band plans to debut underneath the title Dicentra following their album launch.The title is Latin for “bleeding hearts.”

From the Milford, N.H. space, Lord stated he and his band loved the power the competition dropped at town.

“We had a good time… it [was nice] and busy,” he stated. “Everybody had nice power.” 

Moreover, Lord stated he sees the music competition as a terrific alternative for native musicians to department out.

“I simply appreciat[ed] the chance to be right here and play and we’re simply right here to have enjoyable,” Lord stated. “And we respect the chance lots of people have given us and we attempt to move that alongside.”

As for the way forward for the Keene Music Pageant, Small-Martel talked about that one objective is to make music in Keene extra accessible year-round.
